初稿--
Prague, a beautiful city in Eastern Europe, had been war-ridden and thus some mysterious stories have been heard, both of which I had experienced last summer. However, the unique boarding experience made a deep impression on me.
As a backpacker, I usually thought that the room prices and traffic access are the priorities when making a selection of appropriate hostels or B&Bs. The pension we stayed in Prague was located in New Town district with convenient traffic access to Old Town district of tourist destinations and with competitive room rates. The price it offered was so much cheaper than that in Old Town district that we booked it without hesitation. We stayed at that pension for four nights. There were two twin rooms on the floor we stayed and no other people shared the room spaces except us.
The mysterious stories happened in the bathroom and on the ceiling. There were two shared bathrooms with shower. My classmate was the first one to use the bathroom in the morning on the second day and found that I didn’t switch off the light last night. I was skeptical about this. Therefore, on that night, I decided to do a test—switch off the light in one bathroom and on in the other. In doing so, I just wanted to perceive the contrast of the bright feeling with what I felt on the first night. The result proved I was right—I did leave the bathroom without light on. All of a sudden, the thrilling feeling struck me but I didn’t have the nerve to tell my classmate, for her more afraid of this strange thing than me! “Calm down! As a leader, I should be able to face this weird phenomenon,” were the confident words I said to myself. Good words as they were, but their effect didn’t last long. I didn’t have good sleep on that night. Besides, the sounds of footsteps from above on and off also woke me up. I also wondered why the people upstairs were so energetic at midnight.
My worries did not go away on the third day and I made my mind to take action. As my expectation, the unexplainable puzzle in the bathroom gave her a scare. As a result, we both went to the bathroom and took a shower together at night. In addition, she put a Buddha scripture on the table and opened it in our room in the hope of keeping the evil spirits away from us, which was very effective as we did in Germany three years ago. Curiously to say, the sounds of footsteps from above having perplexed us for two days were no longer be heard. We thus had a good sleep.
On the fourth day, I still wondered if we lived on the top floor. When we went out of the room, I looked at the stairs but found no upstairs! This fact proved the other puzzle I’ve met. My classmate, however, still had no idea about it until now.
After all these happenings, the cheaper pension will no longer be my first preference and I’ll also take other people’s recommendation more seriously into consideration. After all, it is worthwhile and unforgettable to have this mysterious recollection once in a life time.
修改後的文章--
Prague, a beautiful city in Eastern Europe, had been war-ridden and thus some mysterious stories have been heard. My classmate, Amy, and I traveled to Prague last July and stayed there for 5 days. We appreciated its beauty and knew that there was a Walking Tour of Prague for Haunted Places (but we didn’t have guts to join this special tour!). However, the unique boarding experience made a deep impression on me. As a backpacker, I usually thought that the room prices and location were the top priorities for selecting an appropriate hostel or B&B. The guest house we stayed in Prague was located in New Town area. It had convenient traffic access to Old Town district of tourist destinations and competitive room rates. The price it offered was so much cheaper than that in Old Town district that we booked it without hesitation. We stayed at that guest house for four nights. There were two twin rooms on the floor. We lived in one twin room and the other one remained empty. The mysterious stories happened on the first night. It took place in the bathroom and on the ceiling. There were two shared bathrooms with shower. My classmate was the first one to use the bathroom in the morning on the second day and found that I didn’t switch off the light last night. I was skeptical. On the second night, I decided to do a test: I switched off the light in one bathroom and on in the other. I just wanted to recall what happened on the first night. The result proved I was right—I left the bathroom after switching off the light. All of a sudden, the thrilling feeling struck me. I didn’t have the nerve to tell my classmate because she was very afraid of this strange thing. “Calm down! As a leader, I should be able to face this weird phenomenon,” were the confident words I said to myself. The effect of the confident words didn’t last long. I didn’t have good sleep. The mysterious phenomenon did not end. At midnight, I could hear the sound of on and off footsteps from above keeping me awake. I wondered why the people upstairs were so energetic at midnight. My worries did not go away on the third day. I decided to take action and tell Amy the first strange accident happened in the bathroom. As I expected, the unexplainable puzzle in the bathroom gave her a scare. We both went to the bathroom and took a shower together at night. In addition, she took out a Buddha scripture from her bag, put and opened it on the table in our room in the hope of keeping the evil spirits away from us. Curiously, the sound of footsteps from above that had perplexed us for two days were no longer heard. We had a good sleep. Amy had used this method to keep evil spirits away from her successfully. It happened in Rothenburg O.D.T., also a war-ridden German town during World War II, three years ago. At that time, I didn’t know there was something wrong with the single room I stayed. However, Amy sensed something weird and she put a Buddha scripture open on the table in her single room. Next day I told her I was harassed by a ghost at night. Then she told me her feeling of my room. That’s the reason why I finally turned to her for help this time. On the fourth day, I was still wondering if we lived on the top floor. When we went out of the room, I looked at the stairs, but found no upstairs! This proved that I had another puzzle to solve. However, Amy still had no idea about the second mysterious story until now. After all these happenings, the cheaper hostel will no longer be my first preference. It is worthwhile and unforgettable to have mysterious recollection once in a life time.
